Dr. Partha Chowdhury
Dr. Partha Chowdhury, Ph.D. (Optometry) is a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at Galgotias
University, Uttar Pradesh, with over twelve years of academic and clinical experience in
optometry and vision science. He completed his Ph.D. in Optometry from Gujarat
University, following a Master of Optometry from Gujarat University and a Bachelor of
Optometry from the West Bengal University of Technology.
Dr. Chowdhury specializes in Binocular Vision, Orthoptics, Refraction, and Low Vision
Rehabilitation, and is actively involved in postgraduate and doctoral training. He is currently
supervising seven Ph.D. Scholars in Optometry and serves as a Member of an International
Review Board, contributing to scholarly peer-review and academic quality assurance. A
prolific researcher, Dr. Chowdhury has authored and co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed
research papers, with publications indexed in Scopus, Elsevier and other international
databases. He is also the author of a scholarly book and multiple book chapters, and holds
four published patents and two registered copyrights, reflecting his strong engagement in
innovation and intellectual property. Dr. Chowdhury has received several academic
recognitions, including the Research Excellence Award (2021), and regularly serves as a
speaker, reviewer, moderator, and external expert for universities and professional bodies.
His research and teaching focus on advancing evidence-based optometric practice, particularly
in the areas of ocular motility, binocular dysfunctions, and visual rehabilitation.
This textbook, Clinical Pediatric Ocular Assessment: From Neonatal Risk Factors to Complex
Visual Disorders, is conceived as a comprehensive clinical guide for optometrists,
ophthalmologists, pediatricians, and vision science professionals who seek a structured,
evidence-based approach to pediatric eye care. The work integrates developmental visual
sciences with practical clinical examination techniques, emphasizing the critical role of early
detection in preventing lifelong visual disability. Each chapter systematically builds upon the
next, beginning with foundational principles and progressing through prenatal, perinatal, and
postnatal risk factors, detailed assessment methodologies, and finally multidisciplinary
management strategies. Special attention is given to age-specific examination adaptations,
neurodevelopmental considerations, and functional vision outcomes beyond conventional
acuity measurements. The text also addresses complex areas including pediatric neuro-
ophthalmology, systemic disease manifestations, and low vision rehabilitation, ensuring

Dr. Brinda Haren Shah
Dr. Brinda Haren Shah, Ph.D. (Optometry) is a distinguished Low Vision Specialist and
Director of Low Vision Care with over seven years of professional experience in clinical
optometry and visual rehabilitation. She has completed her Ph.D. in Optometry from Gujarat
University, along with a Master of Optometry and Bachelor of Optometry from the same
institution, one of India’s leading public universities.
Dr. Shah has made significant academic contributions in the fields of low vision
rehabilitation, binocular vision, ocular motility disorders, and visual dysfunctions
associated with neurological and retinal diseases. She has co-authored numerous research
articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, including publications indexed in
Scopus, CrossRef, Google Scholar, and other major scholarly databases. Her research
spans critical areas such as nystagmus, strabismus, ADHD-related oculomotor dysfunction,
retinal disorders, and the clinical application of low-vision aids.
She is also a co-author of the book “The Eye and Vision Science: Researches and
Innovation” (Akinik Publications, 2024) and a recipient of the Research Excellence Award
(2021) for her scholarly achievements.
With a strong blend of clinical expertise and academic scholarship, Dr. Brinda Shah
continues to contribute to the advancement of vision science, neuro-optometry, and low-
vision care, making her a valued author and researcher in contemporary optometric literature.
Mr. Shyam Asal
Shyam Asal, B.Optom,M.Optom, FAAO, FASCO (LV), Ph.D. Scholar, is a Consultant
Optometrist and Low Vision Rehabilitation Specialist from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with over
five years of experience in Low Vision Care, Rehabilitation, and Clinical Optometry. He
completed his Bachelor of Optometry and Master of Optometry from Nagar School of
Optometry, Gujarat University, and achieved Fellowship of the American Academy of
Optometry (FAAO), USA in 2024. He also earned a Fellowship in Low Vision
Rehabilitation (FASCO-LV) from ASCO India. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Low
Vision from Galgotias University and the prestigious AAO Diplomate in Low Vision. He
has provided free consultation and rehabilitation services to over 5,000 low vision patients
across Gujarat. His clinical interests include Low Vision Rehabilitation, Glaucoma, Retinal
Disorders, Vision Therapy, Paediatric Vision Care, Myopia Management, and Assistive
Device Training. He has served at Shree C.H. Nagri Eye Hospital and currently works as a
Visiting Low Vision Specialist at Restore Eye Hospital and Blind People Association,
Ahmedabad. Shyam Asal has presented scientific papers, case studies, and research posters at
several national and international conferences, including the World Ophthalmology
Congress, AGOS, ASCON International Optometry Conference, and LV Prasad Eye
Institute. He has guided many ophthalmology residents in conference research
presentations and contributed to multiple book chapters in optometry and vision science. His
research has been published in reputed journals, and he has received several awards for
academic excellence, glaucoma awareness, and contributions toward the special needs
sector. He is actively involved in clinical research, low vision awareness programs, and
hands-on training workshops, with a focus on improving rehabilitation services and
enhancing the quality of life of visually impaired individuals.
